la Esquina & CupcakeSTOP.com
Long overdue is chronicle of the rest of my April 2-4 NYC Trip. What will follow are three fairly succinct posts about my extra-Marea food adventures on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This post represents Friday.
My flight arrived promptly at 9:15AM as Scheduled on a beautiful Friday morning. After dropping my baggage off at my friend’s, we headed down to Corner Deli… err… aptly named la Esquina in SoHo:

This place is just a little amazingly authentic corner Taqueria. Naturally I had to get a bunch of different things and ended up with the Cochinita Pibil, Chorizo, and Lengua tacos:

Peeling back the sticker on this delicious brown box revealed all of the pulled pork, chorizo, and tongue that I had been waiting for, and much more!

Each was artfully and uniquely dressed although the flavors did seem to blend together. I didn’t end up with a favorite as they were all quite palatable. The one thing not pictured that you don’t miss was the amount of grease/fat left over. Regardless, I’d go back in a heartbeat next time I’m in the area.
Our other stop of the afternoon was at none other than a CupcakeSTOP.com truck:

While these mobile gormandizing stations are popping up all over the place (even in my neck of the woods — Cincinnati) this one added a little (pun intended) novelty that forced our patronage. None other than miniature cupcakes for a buck! Naturally, I had to try the Red Velvet (Cup)cake:

It wasn’t the best bite-size morsel or Red Velvet Cake that I’ve ever had, but it hit the spot. It was all that I needed to tide me over until Marea later in the evening.
Keep a look out for Saturday’s Post, a LES Food Tour coming soon.
