a friday gift to myself

This week was an exceptionally long week at work. So now that it is finally over, I treated myself to a week well done.
This Willett Family Estate Bottled Single Barrel Bourbon started out as spirits from the Four Roses Distillery and then spent 8 years in select white oak barrels starting on 2/20/01. This bottle is number 112 of 162 from Cask 374, hand-selected for the Party Source. What netted: an assertive 124.6 proof Kentucky Bourbon.
Poured neat, the nose is strong yet sweet with notes of yeast. On the palette it is spicy and I’ll admit, a bit rough. While I can sip 90-100 proof neat, 120+ is a stretch so I decided to add a little ice to kick it back in the ballpark. This also helped keep the “booze in the booze” per se, and improved enjoyability. This cleaned up nose to freshly baked bread, and a hint of oak. The palette was a bit more docile and the finish: warm, pepper, yeast, goodness.
