Delta Fail! When I checked in to my flight last night I had the option to send an “E-Boarding Pass” to my iPhone for check-in. Being a relative tech junkie this sounded like a really cool idea and worth trying. I went ahead, bytes in hand to Delta security here at CVG only to find that their scanners couldn’t scan my phone! It wasn’t just me either, the passenger in front of me as well as the one behind me had the same issues. Its sure a cool concept but Delta should really test it out before releasing an apparently flawed system. On the upside, the security line was super short so it wasn’t a big issue to return to check-in and get a paper ticket. The TSA rep commented that they had been having issues all day with iPhones but Blackberrys were working fine! I’ll still stick with the iPhone though since it seems Research in Motion can’t even keep their damn internet service up as we’ve all seen in the past week.

An addendum to my above post:
I attempted using the “E-Boarding Pass” on my iPhone screen at the Gate in Cincinnati with success, how cool is that!? Based on this information, and noticing the differences in scanner equipment, I speculate that there’s just something wrong with the newly installed (and cheaper looking) scanners at the security checkpoints, That’s strange though since there’s and insignificant number of scanners (3) at the security checkpoint that feeds the numerous (50+) Delta departure gates. Is it an erroneous technical glitch, or did someone cost-save (which I’ve added to my daily vocabulary) this one a bit too much.
